It’s like snow angels ….

We are hoping to get Bob to the vets for another weigh-in really soon. But we think he is looking good and he seems to have more energy.
It’s not too late if you would like to sponsor Bob in his efforts to get down to a healthy weight.
Furry Faces

When they heard that this weeks You Capture was faces they begged to be allowed to join in!
Bob popped into the vets office for a weigh-in last week and we are very happy to report he was 111 lbs. That’s 7 lbs lost already and that was last week! He is still looking for sponsors for his Bob’s Biggest Loser challenge if you would like to support him.
It’s Babybel’s turn at the vets today, she is having her operation so as she doesn’t ever have to have puppies again. She can just concentrate on being a puppy herself!
Big ol’ Bob!

We love Bullies in Need the group but we really don’t have the best set up for fostering bullies so Tanya finds us other dogs that are in desperate need – like Bob the chocolate Lab.
He has hair loss where a choke chain used to live, sores on his feet, ear infections in both ears. He is 118lbs! (A good weight for a male lab is 60-75lbs). He was slated for euthenasia.
He is probably about 5-6 years old, and for all the weight he is carrying is still remarkably mobile. He likes to walk and is great on the leash. He likes to play and to roll around in the snow.
He is a really great boy. We are looking at planning a Bob’s biggest loser weight loss challenge so stay tuned.
Our first Aussie!

Introducing our first foster for ARPH, Blue Ribbon’s “Babybel”, she’s named in honour of the murdered Ottawa Police Officer Eric Czapnik.
She had been part of a seizure of half a dozen dogs from a backyard breeder where they were being kept in appalling conditions. Even with all she has been through, she is a really sweet affectionate girl, who just wants to be close.
All mixed up!

As if it wasn’t odd enough to be fostering a cat for Bullies in Need when we collected Snowball and her kittens for Cat Rescue Network we also came away with Jack!
Meaning we are now fostering a dog for a cat rescue group and a cat for a dog rescue group!
Hopefully Jack’s people will be in a safe enough situation to allow us to reunite them soon.
Update on Tuesday 19th Jan – Jack has been very happily reunited with his people. His ‘Dad’ had a stroke and had been regressing in Jack’s absence, on being reunited he managed to speak a few words.
We need you!

I would like to introduce myself, I am Willow and I am the founder of Willow’s Rescue. I have been very lucky in my life that I have always been loved and cared for. But I have learnt from my furry siblings and friends here at Ruis Dair Homestead that it isn’t like that for everyone.
My big brother and best friend Aspen was terrified of people when he first came to live with us, and another friend I met had spent his whole life in a cage so small that he could barely turn around, he was so excited to be learning to run on grass; it made me very sad.
But I am not one to sit and feel sorry, I like to be doing, and I really want to make a difference. Wouldn’t it be paradise if every animal was as loved and well cared for as I am? So I have herded this group of people together to act as my board of directors – the government apparently only accepts humans to hold these positions, go figure – but we all know who is really in charge!
Together we have started this organization to make a difference in, and to, as many animals’ lives as we can. We aren’t a regular rescue group, we don’t take in animals directly, but rather we concentrate on fundraising to allow us to support the efforts of other rescue groups.
We need more people to help us though, so if you think you might be able to help out in any way, big or small, we would really love to hear from you.
News from George’s Place – Snowball & her kittens
January 11th, 2010 by Heidi
New years eve we received a phone call from Cat Rescue Network, they had an emergency situation where a cat and her kittens were in serious danger, could we take them in?
“The husband suffered a stroke and they were forced to move from their home and into a room in a rented condo because they could not afford the rent where they were living. The people who rented the condo to them took advantage of their situation, threatened to kill the dog and cats, and stole money from the couple. They were violent. The man, just out of the hospital following the stroke, is helpless and frightened for himself and his dog. The couple relinquished Snowball, her kittens and the dog to Cat Rescue Network for the safety of the animals. The animals were very stressed when they came into foster care but soon settled. Snowball is a friendly cat and a good mother. The kittens are all healthy, playful and friendly.”
Snowball is a lovely, affectionate girl, and a good, protective mother. The kittens are adorable little bundles of fun! The little boy is quite chatty, they are all very affectionate.
They can’t be referred to as ‘Snowball’s kittens’ forever though, so if you have a suggestion please leave us a comment.
2009 – a year in review
January 7th, 2010 by Heidi
This weeks You Capture is ‘your YEAR in review’ and reviewing the year seemed like a rather good idea.
In 2009 Willow’s Rescue came into existence and we offered a foster home to 24 cats and 7 dogs.
The dogs were James, the beautiful boy that came from the puppy mill bust, Mary Jane, Magnolia, Napster and Blizzard. Charlie who caused us to be foster flunkies, not for the first time! And arriving on New Years Eve – Jack.
The cats were Jazz & Tango, Edward & Abigale; Charlie, Sammy, Willow & Willomena from the February barn rescue, and Willow’s kittens who we were unable to save. There were also a pair of orphaned kittens who were simply too young and weak to survive. Alfie, Chappie, Rocky, Bella, Porsche and finally arriving on New Years Eve Snowball and her four kittens.
The cats were almost all from the Cat Rescue Network, except Bella who is strangely from Bullies in Need! But to balance things out Jack the dog is fostered for Cat Rescue Network! Charlie was fostered and adopted from Merlin’s Hope, the rest of the dogs were fostered for Bullies in Need.
Bella, Alfie, Porsche, Snowball and her kittens are all still here and still looking for new forever families. Blizzard is also still looking for a forever family. If you think you might be able to offer any of them a home please get in touch.
